A missile launch by the military forces of North Korea came just a few minutes away from striking a passenger jet. The reclusive communist nation stated the launches were tests of defensive military systems. They claim these actions were justified under international law.
Firings of the new launch system began on February 21st, and last over a week. On Tuesday, one of the weapons passed in front of a Chinese passenger jet. Just a few minutes later, the craft, full of men, women and children, flew into the same airspace as the weapon.
North Korea told the international community the accuracy of the new missiles guaranteed the weapons would not strike civilian targets.
According to defense officials in South Korea, the government of Pyongyang gave no advance warning of the tests. The government is Seoul is upset about the launches, which they say endangered populations.
