Representatives from both parties in Washington are staking a united front against federal raids of medical marijuana facilities and patients. The group is sponsoring a bill that would prohibit federal arrests of patients using cannabis in accordance with state laws. Sam Farr, Democratic Representative from California, said, "Let's not bust these people who are using medical marijuana for medical purposes in their state." (1) Joining the 72-year-old in support of patients is Paul Broun, a Republican from Georgia who is also a medical doctor. "There are very real medical reasons to use this drug. Cannabis is not as dangerous as some other drugs out there that doctors around the country are prescribing every day," Broun said. The proposed amendment to an appropriations bill would prohibit the use of federal funds to prosecute patients following state laws.
