Not only is the city a living (or dying) monument to how deadly decades of progressive government can be, it has a police chief whose unflinching support for armed self-protection gets stronger every time he's in the paper.
Already nationally known for his views (he was profiled in May by NRA magazine "America's First Freedom), Craig told the Detroit Free Press in comments published Wednesday that armed Detroiters are a major reason the city has seen a major crime drop in 2014.
Robberies are down by 37 percent; break-ins by 22 percent; and carjackings by 30 percent, the Free Press reported.
"Criminals are getting the message that good Detroiters are armed and will use that weapon," Craig said.
"I don't want to take away from the good work our investigators are doing, but I think part of the drop in crime, and robberies in particular, is because criminals are thinking twice that citizens could be armed."
Craig isn't the only one who thinks so.
