The Electronic Frontier Foundation reports that at least one internet service provider (ISP) has been caught altering the functionality of an essential security protection used for email encryption. Researchers found that Cricket Wireless had been stripping a security flag from email traffic. By removing this flag the ISPs are able to prevent successful email encryption, leaving users vulnerable to interception by third parties.
