Former CBS Reporter Sues Department of Justice for Spying
• http://thelibertybeat.comFormer CBS News correspondent Sharyl Attkisson has filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Postal Service and several unnamed federal employees, claiming they were responsible for her computer being hacked while she reported on stories critical of the Obama administration.
The Justice Department has denied her allegations in the past. A department spokesperson released this statement to Business Insider in May 2013: "To our knowledge, the Justice Department has never 'compromised' Ms. Attkisson's computers, or otherwise sought any information from or concerning any telephone, computer, or other media device she may own or use."
"We stand by our statement from 2013," the Justice Department said in a statement Monday.
Attkisson, who left CBS News last year, alleges that her computer was monitored remotely and the hackers installed software used to extract data and obtain Attkisson's passwords, according to a statement on her personal website.
"Forensics also revealed evidence of U.S. government-related involvement in the surveillance," the statement said.
Attkisson has also filed a lawsuit in the District of Columbia alleging "certain violations of her constitutional rights based on information implicating the federal government in illegal electronic monitoring and surveillance of her home and business computers and phones from 2011 to 2013."
