Grace Jones: Nicki Minaj, Miley Cyrus and Rihanna 'are not challenging the status quo'

• telegraph.co.uk

Grace Jones has blasted stars including Beyonce, Kanye West, Miley Cyrus, Rihanna and Nicki Minaj in an excerpt from her new autobiography, 'I'll Never Write My Memoirs'.

The 67-year-old 'Slave to the Rythm' star said of the younger generation: "I have been so copied by those people who have made fortunes, people assume I am that rich. But I did things for the excitement, the dare, the fact that it was new, not for the money, and too many times I was the first, not the beneficiary."

She accused the superstars of following trends, and copying the people who came before them instead of coming up with their own ideas and challenging the status quo.

Grace Jones said: "Trends come along and people say, 'Follow that trend'."

"There's a lot of that around at the moment: 'Be like Sasha Fierce. Be like Miley Cyrus. Be like Rihanna. Be like Lady Gaga. Be like Rita Ora and Sia. Be like Madonna.'"
