Donald Trump and Ben Carson threaten to pull out of next Republican debate

• The Guardian

The two leading Republican contenders for the White House are threatening not to participate in the next presidential debate.

In a letter signed by both Donald Trump and Ben Carson, the candidates threaten not to participate in the next GOP debate scheduled to be held on 28 October in Boulder, Colorado, if certain conditions are not met.

In particular, they are demanding that there be opening and closing statements and that the total running time of the debate not exceed two hours. The letter reads: "Mr. Trump and Dr. Carson do not and will not, agree to appear at a debate that is more than 120 minutes long including commercials [sic] break. Further the debate must include opening and closing statements from all the candidates."

As it currently runs, the televised debate allows for two hours of debate time along with four commercial breaks of two to four minutes apiece.
