The memos suggest that the department the investigation was intervened to "protect jobs and avoid scandals" despite the seriousness of the allegations.

NBC's Chuck Todds said that the allegations are "disturbing" in two ways — not only were the crimes committed but they were also covered up.

Todd said that the allegations surround an ambassador and security agents of then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

A portion of a memo obtained by NBC reads:

"[The ambassador] routinely ditched his security detail in order to solicit sexual favors from both prostitutes and minor children."

But equally disturbing is the fact that an unnamed high-ranking official from inside the State Department opted to "cease the investigation" into the ambassador's alleged misconduct.
