Police officers spend a lot of time in their cars, sitting alongside highways or parked in inconspicuous locations so they might catch offenders on the road. In the event something happens, they need to be prepared to floor the gas pedal at a moment's notice. It's for this reason police cars are often left idling. Though this might be helpful for the officers, it can take a devastating toll on the environment.

Because there is a dire need for humans to respect the planet and reduce their collective footprint, Ford recently debuted a more environmentally-friendly version of the iconic police car. This is positive news, as the car-maker presently produces about 62% of the police cars sold in the United States.

The Ford Police Responder Hybrid Sedan is expected to improve cities' police departments by decreasing emissions and saving fuel. With an EPA-estimated combined gas mileage of 38 mpg, it has nearly double the fuel efficiency of present-day Police Interceptor.
