Costa Rica Students Protest for Increased Education Spending

Students from the University of Costa Rica and the National University held a protest in San Jose on Tuesday, demanding increased government spending on education.

Protesters urged Legislative Assembly members to approve a law that would allocate 1.5 percent of the country's GDP for higher education in the 2018 national budget, instead of the 1.37 percent proposed by the incumbent government.

Student activists are expected to continue protests in coming weeks against the government of President Luis Guillermo Solis.

teleSUR takes a look at images of the protest calling for more higher education financing.
