Domestication is the transformation of other species through interactions with humans and human-managed environments, such that the reproductive success of those species and their productivity for human-valued traits, such as food value or fibre-production, both increased [1]. This can be regarded as a form of co-evolution [2?"5], in which the human side of the relationship takes place primarily through cultural evolution, i.e. development of techniques and technologies of ecological management transmitted culturally, while the plants or animals evolve through normal biological evolution (genetic transmission).
