He acknowledged and praised numerous House and Senate Republicans in attendance who were his most ardent defenders during the impeachment process. He also apologized to the state of Utah for Senator Mitt Romney, who was the only Republican to join Democrats in voting to convict the president on the first article of impeachment: abuse of power. The vote was 52 to 48. On the second article of impeachment, obstruction of Congress, the vote was 53 to 47.
