The Perseid meteor shower is peaking tonight--here's how to catch it

• https://www.popsci.com BY MARY BETH GRIGGS

For the past month or so, if you headed outside after sunset and you happened to look up at the sky on a clear night, you might have been able to witness the annual production of the Perseids. If you didn't, don't fret, there's still time. The Perseids are expected to reach their peak August 11 through the 13, with the best viewing tonight, between midnight and before the sun rises tomorrow. And here at Popular Science we're answering all the questions you might have about the upcoming display. Let's dive right in.

The Perseid meteor shower happens every summer for about a month. In 2021, the Perseids will run from about July 14 to August 24, but will peak between August 11 and 13. Per usual, the best viewing times are before dawn, and since the moon will only be 13 percent full during the peak days, the meteor should be quite visible.
