DIY ELECTRO-CULTURE: HOW IT WORKS

• Simone Gatto

Electro-culture is an ancient technique that dates back to the second half of the nineteenth century and which had its maximum diffusion in the agricultural world around the 1930s, before the world of agriculture took other directions. Over the last 160 years, over 600 scientists and researchers from all over the world have been interested in this topic and have done many experiments, particularly in the first 30 years of the 1900s. Talking about it and experimenting began again only in the last 15 years of this century, when the need to find eco-sustainable strategies in agriculture began to be felt again.

The definition of electroculture in the dictionary is the application of electricity to agriculture, for the purpose of improving and increasing production. In fact, there are two different approaches to electroculture: A first approach uses low voltage electricity (12 volts) in agriculture and horticulture, with a procedure as simple as it is effective: current is passed through conductive materials such as iron or copper, in the form of bars or spirals around which the plant twists. The experiments carried out (many of which visible on Youtube) show how plants and even fruit trees grow stronger and healthier if "electrified".
