The mother of a soldier killed by friendly fire in Afghanistan said she was “shocked” by President Barack Obama’s selection of retired Gen. Stanley McChrystal to play a role in a campaign highlighting the needs of military families.
McChrystal’s alleged involvement in the cover-up of the death of former pro football player and Army Ranger Pat Tillman has the late soldier’s mother, Mary Tillman, questioning the appointment. “I don’t think it’s the appropriate choice,” she told ABC News. “Considering that we have plenty of evidence indicating that McChrystal was involved in the cover-up of Pat’s death … he’s not the right person for that kind of a job.”
McChrystal resigned his command in Afghanistan last summer after Rolling Stone published a story in which he was quoted criticizing the Obama administration.
Along with the wife of Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki and one other person, McChrystal will serve on the advisory panel for “Joining Forces,” a program that
