Rand Paul stalls Patriot Act renewal and defends gun culture all in one fell swoop

• Huffington Post
WASHINGTON -- Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) pledged during his run for office to be a veritable stick in the mud on issues of philosophical concern even if it meant agitating his fellow Congressional Republicans. Now, as the Senate rushes against the clock to pass an extension of the USA Patriot Act, he's living up to his word.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Sen. Rand Paul received votes on two of his amendments to the USA PATRIOT Act extension. Amendment 363 clarifies that the authority to obtain info under the USA PATRIOT Act does not include authority to obtain certain firearm records. Amendment 365 would require financial institutions to issue suspicious activity reports only in cases in which an appropriate law enforcement agency initiates the request.

Amendment 363 failed 10-85
Amendment 365 failed 4-91

Sen. Paul took to the floor for an hour of procedural debate before the votes on his amendments and final passage of the bill. Below is a video and transcript of his remarks.

FYI, the NRA opposed Sen. Paul's amendment to protect 4473s from being obtained without warrants.

Just when I was beginning to thing the NRA was starting to reform itself.

Chris Cox can suck my wang!!
