In a high-risk move that comes as a response to the nuclear power plant catastrophe at the Fukushima facility in Japan, the Merkel government in Germany has announced plans to wean the country off of nuclear power and into renewable fuel by 2022.
Nuclear power currently accounts for 25% of the energy needs in the country.
The move comes somewhat as a surprise, with the shuttering of the nuclear power piece as an energy source seemingly an overreaction to an earthquake and tsunami event in Japan that is unlikely to occur in Germany...
