EU wants U.N. action on Syria

BRUSSELS, July 7 (UPI) -- The U.N. Security Council is called on to condemn the brutality of the Syrian regime of President Bashar Assad, the European Parliament said Thursday.

Amnesty International in a report this week said it found evidence of crimes against humanity committed against the Syrian population. Amnesty International Deputy Director for Middle East and North African Affairs Philip Luther said the U.N. Security Council needs to refer Damascus to the International Criminal Court before legal action can take place.

Members of the European Parliament said Thursday the Security Council needs to pass a resolution condemning Syria.
