Scientists make major breakthrough with AIDs

Medical researchers on two continents have achieved an important breakthrough in their ongoing fight to defeat the AIDs virus. Their findings may eventually bring them to a vaccine preventing the deadly auto-immune disease. The key to their breakthrough, just published in the peer reviewed journal Blood, involves their discovery that human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is not able to function when cholesterol is extracted from the virus's membrane. Once removed, HIV becomes inactive and cannot harm the immune system.
