New software permits mind-reading and mind-over-matter

The people who work at IBM's Emerging Technologies lab in Winchester, England can read minds and move things with mere thought. Four hundred years ago they would have been burned at the stake. But these high-tech sorcerers aren't in league with Beelzebub, they just know the devil's in the details and paying attention to those details has enabled them to work technological magic. The secret to mind reading and control lies in a futuristic appearing headset created by an Australian company, Emotiv, for the gaming industry. Although the basic technology's been around for ages, the wizards at IBM have ramped up the basic software and tweaked its ability to map the patterns and impulses of a thinking brain.
