Ah, déjà vu. It feels like 1994 all over again. The fiscally conservative Republicans had swept into power, devastating the Democrat’s in the U.S. House, gaining control of the Senate, landing a majority of Governor’s seats and the state’s legislatures. Only a Democratic President stood in their way.

The Republican’s had signed a “Contract with America.” A brilliant piece of deception, outlining a plan to get the United States back onto a more fiscally responsible path. Every member of the Republican House had signed off on the pledge to bring the “contract” up for a vote. Up for a vote. They didn’t say they would actually enact any of the provisions ... and they didn’t.

The Democrats were about as arrogant and corrupt as an imperial Roman Senate could get. On that election night in 1994 they saw their empire come crashing down. The surviving members made their deals with the Republican majority and they divvied up what spoils were provided by the conquering pachyderms.

For twelve years the fiscally conservative Republicans presided over the largest increase in national debt known. Borrowed and printed money. Spent lavishly and without consequence until today.

For the past five years, the Republicans have controlled all three branches of the federal government. They enthusiastically enabled the use of an attack on America to launch a pre-emptive invasion and occupation of a nation that posed no threat to us. Killing over half a million people, bankrupting our treasury, and spilling the blood, sanity, life and limb of tens of thousands of Americans who have volunteered to defend this nation. They have squandered the good will of nations across the globe. Acted as the superpower bully demanding obedience from every nation on the globe. Threatened every nation on the globe.

They have gleefully and without debate, shredded the Bill of Rights, and recently reshredded it, as the draconian laws they enacted to trample on our rights were set to expire. They have applauded unlawful detention, murder, torture and surveillance not only of foreigners in foreign lands under U.S. seizure, but foreigners in our own nation as well as our own citizens within America.

They have passed every appropriation bill only after padding their pockets with massive pork laden diversions of stolen taxpayer loot to their districts, their lobbyists and their favored relatives.

In short, they are thieves who steal the liberties and property of those they purport to represent.

And now they have been replaced by the thieves of 1994. Ali Baba. Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss. Déjà vu all over again. The surviving Republicans are right now making their deals with the new Democratic majority and they divvy up what spoils will be provided by the conquering asses.

The Democrats have won a large majority of the House, a majority of the Senate, the majority of governorships, and the majority of state legislatures. And it is in their best interests to impeach the corrupt pair who got us into this so they can complete the trifecta of dominating all three branches of government once again.

Already visions of reinstating the estate tax, giving tax credits for student loans, medical care, energy, increased fuel standards, and increases in the minimum wage are being proposed. Can gun bans be far behind (which cost them in 1994)?

Now is the season of our discontent. The more things change, the more they stay the same. What a coincidence this must be. Does anyone really expect a quick lessening of the carnage in Iraq? Does anyone expect thieves to reduce your debt?
