Re: “ Colorado adjusts ozone defense” Mark Jaffe DP 7/20/08

“West’s growth far from done” Mark Jaffe DP 7/21/08

Do any wise men lead us into a sustainable American future?  Or, do we follow bumbling, stumbling and blundering governors, senators, house reps and mayors—that lead us into environmental collapse, water shortages and unsolvable energy predicaments?

Fact: we lack leadership from Publisher of the Rocky Mountain News' John Temple, Denver Post's Dean Singleton, Colorado's Governor Bill Ritter, most journalists across the nation and a host of others as we add millions of people to America annually via immigration.  We add them without a plan and without any idea of the accelerating damages we perpetuate on our progeny.

Denver Post journalist Mark Jaffe wrote how Denver cannot solve its ozone levels in 2008 with 2.5 million residents.  Let’s face it, Denver suffers dirty, brown, toxic and highly polluted air.  With an added four or five million people, nothing can solve our air pollution crisis! Yet, no one addresses the root cause.

The same holds true in Phoenix, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, New York and elsewhere in the USA.  Folks, at current immigration levels, we expect 100 million people in 30 years.  Why do so few understand our dilemma?  Why so few take action? Why so many ignore this accelerating train wreck with such insipid comments as:

“It is about being able to jog in the late afternoon and not worry whether it hurts your health,” Andrew Spielman, chairman, Regional Air Quality Council.

With added millions of humans, cars and housing—air quality can only degrade.  Yet, our leaders stick their heads so far down into the sand, they resemble ostriches!

Another guest commentary by Tim Hogan, “Destroying Alaskan refuge isn’t the answer” 7/21/08, wrote a brilliant essay on the sanctity of Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.  He shared his experience of 100,000 caribou making their way to summer calving grounds, “In this migration of millennia, there is solace, and a stunning rebuke to those who would extinguish such an enduring majesty.”

Mark Jaffe’s second column illustrates Colorado’s ominous future as we add 100,000 annually, one million per decade and an expected total of six million by mid century.  Jaffe pointed out a total of 12.7 million people in the Rocky Mountain West in 30 years.  I predict it will be double that at current immigration levels.

Nowhere did Jaffe interview anyone who espouses a paradigm shift from growth to stability.  Nowhere does the Denver Post ever report on the dynamic misery we thrust upon future generations with our incessant population growth.  Jaffe said, “The growth will be powered by continued migration into the region.”

No cow manure Sherlock! That’s millions of people fleeing Los Angeles’ 20 million maniacs and Houston’s convoluted insane asylum of overpopulation. You can add another several million Chicago natives run out by unending car traffic!  We may expect more population as Arizona dries up like a bone in the Sahara desert.

Yet, not one reporter interviews top experts like Governor Richard D. Lamm, Fred Elbel, Dr. Albert Bartlett, Dr. Diana Hull, Kathleene Parker and other experts who know what’s coming.  Why so afraid of reality Mr. Temple, Mr. Singleton, Mr. Carroll?  Do you prefer thrusting your children into the coming energy, food, water, crowding and environmental chaos?   Afraid more stable minds might throw a wrench into your unlimited growth plans?

“The U.S. will set a record in the rate of rise—and fall of an empire.  Between wide open borders and fall of the dollar and growing population against a declining resource base, the US will be defeated from within. Mobs will rule the streets in the nation that is now the third largest in the world and unable to support its population except by taking resources from other countries.”  Arnold Toynbee

While I lived in Antarctica years ago, I noticed a poster in Building 55, the Galley,  by William Schimmel.  The painting depicted penguins, icebergs, whales and seabirds as they played on the ice continent.  The quote by Shimmel caught my eye, “ Antarctica has come to symbolize the last of the wild places.  But no place is sacred in Man’s eyes.  In this pristine wilderness, greed would still find a haven for devastating industry.  For God’s sake, with a planet full of beings such as ourselves, even the stars aren’t safe.”

“If present growth trends in population, industrialization, pollution, food production and resource depletion continue unchanged, the limits to growth will be reached sometime in the next 100 years.”  The Club of Rome 1972

To you the reader, I challenge you. I challenge you to write every RMN and DP journalist as well as the editorial staff. I invite you to invite them to write about our fate if we continue unending, relentless and massive population growth.  Demand they address our consequences. More than that, invite them to create solutions.

Simplest solution: the average U.S. female enjoys 2.03 fertility, which provides a stable population. Thus, we must bring about a stable human population by cutting back legal and illegal immigration to less than 100,000 people per year. That’s how many people egress the USA annually.  We currently add 2.4 million immigrants annually from a line that grows by 77 million annually.  We cannot save the world, but we can destroy our own country.  We must lead the world with International Family Planning (birth control) and engage with all countries to bring about a stable world population.

We must change consciousness in this country from unlimited growth and population gains to a stable, sustainable population.  We must create a ‘critical mass’ of Americans that push this issue to the top of the presidential and senate debates.  By gaining millions, we reach ‘tipping point’ that changes history toward a viable and sustainable future for our children and all living things.  Who is your hero?  Susan B. Anthony?  Dr. Martin Luther King?  Gandhi?  Eleanor Roosevelt? John Muir? Teddy Roosevelt?  Barbara Jordan?  They were common citizens with uncommon determination. That was there time, this is yours. You possess the same power to change history for the better.

You are invited to bring your relentless enthusiasm and passion for your country, for your planet and in the end--for your children—to this noble task before all humanity.  Let’s get busy!

Bob Woodruff of ABC asked input from all citizens concerning the future of our planet. Go to www.earth2100.tv for a sobering reality check as to what we face and to what I have been writing about for the past 20 years.  Our ‘window’ to change to a balanced population and non-polluting energy diminishes every day we ignore the symptoms manifesting all over America and the planet.

Final note:  I am looking for thinkers, writers and advocates to add to my monthly “Master Mind Think Tank.”   In reality, our politicians foment the problems that they campaign to solve.  They never solve them; thus we spiral into deeper national chaos.   I need new ideas and new creative thinkers to help me bring our most pressing issues onto the front burner: overpopulation in America caused by ceaseless legal and illegal immigration.  As you know, the recent PEW report shows immigration adding 100 million people to our country in 30 years.  We need to stop it and we need to stop it now.  Join me in saving our civilization. frostyw@juno.com

This three minute interview with Adam Schrager on “Your Show” May 4, 2008, NBC Channel 9 News, addresses the ramifications of adding 120 million people to USA in 35 years and six million people to Colorado as to water shortages, air pollution, loss of farmland, energy costs and degradation of quality of life.  In the interview, Frosty Wooldridge explains the ramifications of adding 120 million people to the USA in 35 years. He advances new concepts such as a “Colorado Carrying Capacity Policy”; “Colorado Environmental Impact Policy”; “Colorado Water Usage Policy”; “Colorado Sustainable Population Policy”.  Nationally, the USA needs a "National Sustainable Population Policy" to determine the carrying capacity of this nation for the short and long term.  Wooldridge is available for interviews on radio and TV having interviewed on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and FOX.
