CONNECTING THE DOTS

More About: General Opinion

Our corrupt congress wasting taxpayer trillions

On the eve of watching our Congress financially destroy  the federal government’s ability to maintain solvency, 535 members passed a budget to stagger and stumble our country toward an unknown destination.  Congress kicked the can down the road.

Didn’t you find it almost comical how they argued over $2 billion for trifling concerns?  What they ended up with turned out to be a joke.  That joke places you in the cross-hairs of financial decline.

Out of $1.3 trillion, they cut money that would be something like the size of a dime in an Olympic- sized swimming pool.  Whoopee-do and yahoo! Go get ‘em Congress critters!

What good did they do?  Answer: they slapped a half-inch round band-aid on a half-mile-sized boil!

Does our Congress possess any understanding of mathematical equations?  Apparently, they cannot subtract, add, divide or multiply.  That shows up in our $14 trillion federal debt.  Instead of reducing it, they grow it.  Ultimately, it will collapse our entire financial system.   It shows up in our $700 billion annual trade deficit.  It shows up in our failing Medicare and Medicaid.  It shows up in our $900 billion military budgets.

It shows up in our 40 year War on Drugs at $80 billion annually spent for absolutely nothing in results for four decades.  Oh, I forgot, we’ve put something like 34 million kids in jail for smoking a “doobie” while we watch 450,000 Americans die of cancer annually from smoking the second most dangerous drug in the world: tobacco.  What’s the most dangerous?  Alcohol! It kills 17,000 on our highways annually while it wrecks homes and causes horrible physical abuse in families.  Alcohol kills more people annually than all other drugs combined in  four decades!  Yeah, but it’s legal!  (Source: www.cop.org)

We would rather build prisons to house those drug offenders than build colleges to educate our youth!   That reminds me of the emotionally naive that continue supporting the War on Drugs for the last 40 years.   Results: drugs are more available, more powerful and are distributed by thousands of teens and older dealers across the nation today just as they did in 1971.

As to the $14 trillion debt.  That joke makes you, the American taxpayer, pay out in excess of $600 million daily as interest on the Federal Debt.  Your tax dollars slide into the hands of international bankers, local bankers and other money lenders that make billions off  your tax dollars for doing absolutely nothing.  Your tax dollars don’t pay for schools, playgrounds, inner city improvement, cleaner air, roads or safer drinking water.  It goes to the bankers for their Lear jets, million dollar mansions, globetrotting and fancy cars.

You pay your portion of a $12 billion monthly credit card balance for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan—every month for the past 10 years.  It’s staggering how much money you (me, too) pay for two absolutely useless, wasteful, worthless and accomplishing-nothing wars.  Did I hear you say, “Yeah, but we’re fighting terror!”  Reality check: U.S. border remains as open as a 24-hour mall!

As of two weeks ago, add even more billions of your money to our new war in Libya that cost you taxpayers $550 million in military costs for the first 10 days of bombing.  (Source: Time Magazine, page 11, April 11, 2011)

While we suffer 40 million functionally illiterate Americans and 43 million citizens subsisting on food stamps—our Congress maintains 570,000 military personnel on 700 bases in 120 countries around the world.  For what?    At what costs?  Answer: countless trillions of dollars since WWII.  Result: nothing!

We maintain 50,000 troops in Iraq.  They don’t want us there so why are we staying?  “We want them to get out of our country,” said Sheik Ahmed al-Hasnawi to tens of thousands at a rally in Baghdad.  “It’s the last year in our country for the Americans.” (Source: AP, Shiites demand US pullout)

While we cannot educate our own children, especially the millions in our inner-cities, we think we must show our military might and stick our nose into everybody else’s business around the world.  While we show our military power, 13.4 million American children live below the poverty level.
While we suffer 15 million unemployed Americans, we pay out every single year a mind-numbing $346 billion across 15 federal agencies to uninvited, unwanted and unneeded illegal migrants and their kids.  (Source: Edwin Rubenstein report, www.TheSocialContract.com)

They could use that money to enforce our immigration laws and take their jobs away so they would repatriate into their own countries.
While our educational systems must cut millions in every state in the Union, and our infrastructure declines and decays—at what point will be rebuild our country, our schools and maintain our citizens by creating jobs?

Therefore, last Saturday night, did our Congress serve us?  Did it solve the problems it created?  Did it make a difference in the lives of 15 million unemployed Americans.  Did it enforce simple laws like citizenship, employer E-Verify and honest employment?  Did it stop the three wars that it created that are doing nothing to be won or lost—just continued?  Did it make any progress on “Fair Trade” , balanced budget, peace, education and jobs for Americans?
Answer: it kicked the can down the road.

But you keep paying on that $600 million in interest day in and day out on the $14 trillion debt.  It’s a good deal if you’re a banker!
