NYT Propaganda on Russian/Syrian Aleppo Ceasefire

by Stephen Lendman

Times reporting on Syria consists of US administration and Pentagon handouts - willful misinformation and Big Lies, vital hard truths suppressed, disgracefully mocking legitimate journalism, absent in Times reports on virtually all major issues, especially geopolitical ones.

Instead of praising Russian and Syrian good faith efforts to halt fighting in Aleppo, the self-styled "newspaper of record" turned truth on its head, headlining "Wary of Russian Guarantees, Residents Stay Put in War-Torn Aleppo," saying:

"People trapped in east Aleppo said they did not trust that Russia, which has been helping the Syrian government bomb them for months, would now keep them safe in designated 'humanitarian corridors.' "

Fact: My same day article explained US-supported terrorists are preventing civilians and militants from leaving eastern Aleppo, risking death or serious injury if they try.

The Times: "Many (eastern Aleppo residents said) they wanted to hold on to their homes, or to continue to resist the government of President Bashar al-Assad."

Fact: Former homes are heavily damaged or destroyed, unfit and unsafe to live in. Syrians overwhelmingly support Assad, wanting no one else leading them - blaming foreign supported terrorists for endless war.

The Times continues irresponsibly blaming Russia and Syria for US-led "coalition" terror-bombing - massacring civilians, targeting hospitals, schools, residential areas and vital infrastructure.

Russia and Syria offered terrorists infesting east Aleppo safe passage from the city - either amnesty if they cease fighting or relocation elsewhere in the country with their weapons.

Not according to The Times, falsely claiming "neither Moscow nor Damascus has shown any inclination (to let them) be bused out with their weapons…seeking instead to subdue all opposition."

Russian UN envoy Vitaly Churkin said terrorists remaining in eastern Aleppo will face "unpleasant consequences." They have two options - "either leave the city (with a guarantee of safe passage) or we will have to defeat them" militarily.

The Times quoted a terrorist "political chief" (posing as a nonexistent moderate rebel), operating from Turkey with CIA support, saying "(n)o one left (eastern Aleppo), and no one is going to leave, neither civilians nor fighters," calling the ceasefire "a joke."

Neither the individual quoted or The Times explained Washington and terrorists it supports in Aleppo bear full responsibility for continued fighting and failure to honor the Russian/Syrian ceasefire.
