US-Dominated NATO Mobilizing for War on Russia?

by Stephen Lendman

Disquieting reports indicate up to 300,000 US-led combat troops deployed near Russia's borders will be put on high alert, capable of waging war in weeks.

Is Obama preparing for Hillary's ascension to power, intending unthinkable war on Russia under her leadership, likely to go nuclear if launched?

Moscow is justifiably concerned, Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu, saying US-led "actions undermine strategic stability and are forcing Russia to take reciprocal defensive measures, including some in the Western theatre."

NATO "has not abandoned attempts to dictate its will to other countries through economic and political means, as well as by military force," adding "an information war is in full swing."

Russia is arming military units deployed near its Western borders with state-of-the-art weapons and other means to defend its territory.

Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said NATO was established for "not for peace-building, but…for (US-led) aggressi(ion)."

No Russian threat exists - not now, earlier or anticipated. Yet US-installed NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said the alliance is "responding with the biggest reinforcement of our collective defense since the end of the Cold War" - mobilizing forces to "be ready on a shorter notice."

Speaking for Washington, he lied accusing Russia of "assertive" behavior. Peskov categorically stressed Moscow threatens no one. No credible evidence suggests otherwise. Throughout its existence, the Russian Federation never attacked another country - unlike US aggression in multiple theaters virtually always.

Last week, Moscow's envoy to NATO Alexandr Grushko said alliance combat troops mobilized near Russia's borders pose "obvious risks - countries involved "fulfilling their confrontational schemes of military planning and…preparations in the territories along our borders" - jeopardizing the viability of the Russia-NATO Founding Act.

"NATO and primarily the United States are actively reclaiming the aquatorium of the Black Sea with their multifunctional combat platforms, having a serious offensive and anti-missile potential, (while) intimidating the public with movements of Russian ships in the international waters."

Disturbing NATO actions won't go unanswered, Grushko stressed. "So…(w)hat's next," he asked? More baseless accusations of a nonexistent Russian threat? A worrisome arms race? "We believe (US-led provocations constitute) a road to nowhere."

US-dominated NATO invents reasons for provocative action - claiming:

nonexistent "Russian aggression" in Ukraine;

illusory threats against Baltic and other Eastern European states;

criticizing its involvement in Syria, at the behest of its government, combating terrorists America supports, challenging its regional imperial agenda effectively;

nonsensically claiming it hacked DNC emails, while threatening to interfere with America's November 8 elections; and

whatever else can be manufactured out of whole cloth at any time to claim a nonexistent Russian threat.

Its peaceful multi-world polarity agenda challenges America's hegemonic ambitions. Its powerful nuclear arsenal gives it breathing space.

How long will it last with a likely neocon-infested Hillary administration succeeding Obama - lunatics perhaps willing to risk humanity's survival to transform all sovereign independent countries into US vassal states, especially Russia, China and Iran.
