The Curse of Government and Media Scoundrels' Fake News

The Curse of Government and Media Scoundrels' Fake News

by Stephen Lendman

Famed journalist IF Stone (1907 - 1989) once said "(a)ll governments are run by liars and nothing they say should be believed."

Explaining his mission as a writer, author, investigative journalist, he said "I tried to bring the instincts of a scholar to the service of journalism; to take nothing for granted; to turn journalism into literature; to provide radical analysis with a conscientious concern for accuracy, and in studying the current scene to do my very best to preserve human values and free institutions."

His journalism and from others like him, earlier and now, comforted the afflicted and afflicted the comfortable, borrowing an expression from Finley Peter Dunne (1867 - 1936) - nothing fake about their type writing and analysis, the way it's supposed to be, polar opposite media scoundrel rubbish.

Stone called himself an "anachronism...an independent capitalist, the owner of my own enterprise, subject to neither mortgage or broker, factor or patron...standing alone, without organizational or party backing, beholden to no one but my good readers."

Don't all independent writers and scholars feel the same way, producing journalism at its best, polar opposite mainstream fake news, nothing credible about it?

A NYT online promo headlines "Independent journalism. More essential than ever." Too bad The Times fails the test, beholden to powerful special interests exclusively, betraying its readers. Here's a sampling of headlines from its latest edition:

The Times: "World 'United in Horror,' but Stood By as Aleppo Fell"

Syrian and allied forces liberated Aleppo from US-supported terrorists. Holiday season arrived early for its beleaguered, brutalized, long-suffering residents - victims of US imperial viciousness.

The Times: "Assad's Lesson From Aleppo: Force Works, With Few Consequences"

Syria was invaded by ISIS and other imported terrorist fighters, used as imperial foot soldiers. Assad has been responsibly combatting them for over five-and-a-half years, finally achieving what may turn out to be a decisive, turning point victory in Aleppo. He deserves universal praise, not disgraceful condemnation.

The Times: "Obama Says He Told Putin: 'Cut It Out' on Hacking' "

The Times: "Clinton Says 'Personal Beef" by Putin Led to Hacking Attacks"

Not a shred of evidence suggests Russian hacking or other type interference with America's election. Claiming otherwise by Obama, Hillary, The Times and other media scoundrels is fake news - willful lying to maintain continued hostile US relations toward Moscow, along with trying to delegitimize Trump's victory.

The neocon/CIA-connected Washington Post matches or exceeds the type fake news The Times produces. Headlines from its latest edition include:

"Aleppo evacuation thrown into chaos with thousands still stranded"

As of Friday, all residents and US-backed terrorists were evacuated, except for a few pockets of renegade holdouts, being mopped up at this time.

Aleppo is finally free from the scourge of US-backed terrorists, monsters responsible for cold-blooded murder, torture, chemical weapons use and other atrocities - with full support and encouragement from Washington.

WaPo: "Aleppo evacuation thrown into chaos with thousands still stranded"

Fact: Their evacuation was successfully completed, despite efforts to disrupt it.

WaPo a day earlier: "In shattered Aleppo, convoys carry the devastated and defeated from the last rebel zones"

Why then today's headline claiming "thousands still stranded?" WaPo and other media scoundrels continue calling imported US-backed terrorists "moderate rebels" and US naked aggression "civil war."

WaPo: "FBI in agreement with CIA that Russia aimed to help Trump win White House"

A same-day article debunked this fake news. No election hacking occurred - by Russia or anyone else.

A sampling of Wall Street Journal headlines today includes:

"Aleppo Awaits Evacuations After Apparent Cease-Fire Deal"

As explained above, evacuations were successfully completed. Around 100,000 eastern Aleppo resident safely got out over recent days, now secure in government controlled areas.

WSJ: "UN Security Council Holds (another) Emergency Meeting on Syria…"

The US, UK, French and German scheme is to halt Syrian and allied forces, greatly aided by Russian air power, from liberating more parts of the country from the terrorist scourge they support.

WSJ: "Obama Suggests Putin Had Role in Election Hacking"

Obama lied like he always does. Neither Putin or anyone else in Russia hacked or in any way interfered with America's election.

Why does any sensible person put up with media scoundrel fake news, passed off as the real thing, when credible reporting and analysis are readily available from reliable independent sources?
