The Latest Saudi Atrocity in Yemen

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

War in Yemen was planned and orchestrated in Washington, ongoing for two-and-a-half years with no end in sight.

Of all current war theaters, none match the horrors in Yemen, millions of its people threatened by endless conflict, famine, and untreated diseases, including over half a million sick with cholera.

Civilians suffer most in all wars. Saudi terror-bombing and blockade target them as much as Houthi fighters in areas they control.

Attacking a Sanaa hotel on Wednesday was the latest example, a horrendous war crime, killing dozens, injuring many others, destroying the two-story structure, many bodies buried under rubble, mostly or maybe entirely noncombatants.

Images of the scene showed two bodies hanging under rubble from the top floor, a chilling sight.

According to a Protection Cluster in Yemen report, 5,676 Saudi airstrikes were carried out so far this year - compared to 3,936 throughout 2016.

The death toll far exceeds official numbers, mostly defenseless civilians killed. A yet to be released UN report called "(t)he killing and maiming of children…the most prevalent violation" - perishing from war, diseases and starvation.

America and Britain sell billions of dollars in arms and munitions to Riyadh, facilitating ongoing carnage, responsible for slow-motion genocide.

Last May, UK Defense Secretary Michael Fallon called Saudi naked aggression "self-defense," adding Riyadh is an "enormously important trading partner, a commercial partner, but also a defense partner." The bottom line is money and political expediency.

Like America, Britain is a merchant of death and destruction, partnering with brutal regimes like the Saudis.

It's the world's second largest arms exporter after America, selling them to 22 of the 30 countries on its human rights watch list, according to UK Trade and Investment.

During his visit to Saudi Arabia in May, Trump sealed an arms and munitions deal worth around $350 billion over the next decade.

He praised the region's most despotic Arab state, deplorably calling its "vision…one of peace, security and prosperity."

He boasted about a deal with a tyrannical regime using US and UK supplied weapons for mass slaughter and destruction, ignoring the horrors of devastating war in Yemen, including millions facing starvation.

Media scoundrels largely ignore what's ongoing, most Americans unaware of the rape and destruction of the region's poorest nation in more normal times.

Nothing is ever normal in Yemen. Naked aggression continues to rape and destroy the country, devastating its people.
