Boris Johnson: Lead UK Russophobe in Skripal Affair

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

On Monday, UK Foreign Minister Johnson sought solidarity from his EU counterparts in Brussels against Russia in the alleged Skripal poisoning affair.

Shamefully, they concurred, issuing a statement saying:

"The European Union strongly condemns the attack that took place against Sergei and Yulia Skripal in Salisbury, UK on 4 March 2018, that also left a police officer seriously ill."

"The lives of many citizens were threatened by this reckless and illegal act. The European Union takes extremely seriously the UK Government's assessment that it is highly likely that the Russian Federation is responsible."

"The European Union is shocked at the offensive use of any military-grade nerve agent, of a type developed by Russia, for the first time on European soil in over 70 years."

"The use of chemical weapons by anyone under any circumstances is completely unacceptable and constitutes a security threat to us all."

"Any such use is a clear violation of the Chemical Weapons Convention, a breach of international law and undermines the rules-based international order."

"The EU welcomes the commitment of the UK to work closely with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in supporting the investigation into the attack."

"The Union calls on Russia to address urgently the questions raised by the UK and the international community and to provide immediate, full and complete disclosure of its Novichok program to the OPCW."

"The European Union expresses its unqualified solidarity with the UK and its support, including for the UK's efforts to bring those responsible for this crime to justice."

No one anywhere with any ounce of intelligence believes Russia poisoned Sergey Skripal and his daughter - the accusation preposterous, a disgraceful perversion of truth, hugely offensive to Moscow.

It's unclear what, if anything, happened to father and daughter Skripal. Britain's failure to disclosure information required under the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) shows it has something to hide.

Asked about the alleged incident on Sunday, following his overwhelming electoral triumph, Putin explained Russia destroyed its entire CW stockpile, verified by the OPCW, adding:

If anyone was exposed to a military-grade nerve agent, they "would have died on the spot."

Britain reported the Skripals alive but seriously ill. If true, they weren't poisoned by an alleged Novichok nerve agent - never developed by Russia.

Nonsensical claims about the toxin placed in the luggage of Spripal's daughter before leaving Moscow, or the latest media-circulated notion about putting it in the ventilation system of his car in powdered form defy credibility - no evidence supporting either report.

ABC News cited unnamed US intelligence sources, claiming the ventilation system version of events, saying 38 others were affected - ill but alive from exposure to a military-grade nerve agent.

It's clearly a bogus story, no credibility whatever to it.

Exposure to something this dangerous would cause instant death, not illness.

The Skripal scenario was invented - reports from Britain, America and other Western countries defy credibility.

On Monday, Johnson turned truth on its head calling Russia's denial "absurd," its "classic…strategy…not fooling anybody."

It's hard understanding why anyone takes him seriously. His remarks about the incident Monday and earlier were bald-faced lies.

Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov accused him and other UK officials of disgraceful, unacceptable "slander," adding:

"Sooner or later, (Britain) will have to account for these baseless allegations, either by backing them up with evidence or by offering its apologies."

The damage is done. Most people believe the Big Lie. Western media scoundrels push it - drowning out voices of reason and truth-telling.
