Unfit For Teaching Children To Distrust Government? Not According To The Evidence

In a recent headline grabbing Austin-based CPS case, one of the primary complaints against the parents was that they were teaching their children to distrust the government. According to the local police and the child “protectors,” this was reason enough to deem the couple unfit to parent. Odd, considering that our nation was founded by men who, according to their writings, had a profound distrust of government. Stranger still in light of the millions of people murdered by their own governments during the 20th century. Bordering on bizarre, considering the number of children raped and abused by teachers, CPS workers, and police officers, to name just a few of those who hold power over children.

The founders of this nation, having been forced to secure their liberty through revolution against what was then the most powerful empire in the world, were very specific about their mistrust of government. According to Thomas Jefferson, “the two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first." In a succinct expression of his lack of trust in government, Jefferson also said that “the strongest reason for the people to retain their right to keep and bear arms is as a last resort to protect themselves against tyranny in government.” And, as even a light perusal of the Anti-Federalist writings demonstrates, he was far from the only founder to hold this basic distrust of government.

Clearly, judging by the long history of mass murders of their own citizens by government, our nation’s founders were absolutely correct in their almost inherent distrust of government. The 20th century offers numerous examples of governmental slaughter of a mindboggling degree. Lenin killed 4 million of his own people, Stalin 42 million, Mao, using the more conservative of the numbers available, killed 40 million, Hitler killed 6 million Jews and numerous other civilians, bringing civilian slaughter to about 10 million (which doesn’t count prisoners of war, etc.), Pol Pot, 2 million. And, sadly, the list goes on and on and on. These are not war numbers, these numbers, and this does bear repeating, reflect governments murdering their own people.

Now, let’s move on to the government representatives that are involved in children’s lives, taking for example teachers, police officers, and CPS workers. Running a simple Internet search on any of those entities reveals numerous news stories about the rape or molestation of a child by a teacher, police officer, or CPS worker. World Net Daily, for example, keeps a running list of female teachers molesting students here. The American Family Rights Association website is a great resource for those looking for mainstream news articles regarding the sexual abuse of children by CPS workers. Here, at the Injustice Everywhere site, interested readers can read daily reports of misconduct and crime by police officers, including the assault, sexual abuse, and killing of children and teens. The facts are there for anyone who chooses to spend a few minutes of their time to look them up. (No wonder Obama says too much information is a strain on our "democracy.")

Judging strictly from the facts, not from political philosophy, to equate parental unfitness with teaching children to distrust government is utterly ridiculous. Indeed, it would be far more accurate to state that teaching children to automatically trust and obey the government and the governmental representatives that they may come in contact with is the height of parental irresponsibility. Responsible parents that are interested not just in liberty, but also in the physical safety of their children, have a parental obligation  " as the record clearly indicates " to teach their children to always and forever distrust government and its officials.

LOL! They tell me my temperment is a result of my Cherokee great grandmother, my French blood, and the splash of German and -- you guessed it -- Celtic. But.. I'll tell you that it comes from my mother, who grew up dirt poor in Texas. She actively taught me to question, for as long as I could remember.

She was once more than a little annoyed with me, due to the visit from the FBI and Secret Service in relation to a letter writing campaign to the war criminals, Bush and Cheney. During our conversation, I gently reminded her who it was that sent me to school with questionaires marked in her neat hand writing "NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS". I reminded her who pressed me with the question "How do you know it is true?" when we'd discussed what my 4th grade teacher taught that day, until we reached my explanation that it was in the textbook, so it must be true. To which she responded "That doesn't make it true," going on to explain about writer's perspectives and the need to read multiple sources and think for myself.

By the end of the conversation, she acknowledged what she always knew. I think because she taught me to. I fight because she taught me to. I do what I do because she did what she did so well.

Thanks, Oyate, for taking the time to read and comment.

I bet you ride a BMW motorcycle. All the cool CA chicks ride Bmers.

All the hot gals here in AZ ride Ducattis.

I'm an old Bmer guy from away back.

You are a warrior female with orange dreadlocks. I believe, my dear, that you are a Celt. Your people favour axes.
