Hope and Change

Hope and Change came to Yuma Tuesday night, December 4 in the form of Audrea Taylor and Luke Andersen of im2moro who were special guests of The Freedom Library at its Annual Constitution Forum held at Booth Machinery.

The Freedom Library awarded its academic scholarship to David Riek, a sophomore at Yuma Catholic High School and then Audrea and Luke gave an exemplary display of understanding the seven principles of human relations, Justice, Prosperity, Happiness, Security, Responsibility, Liberty, and Peace.

As noted in the im2moro brochure, Justice is rule of law, which is the basis of the American republic.  The American government is to advocate what is just, not just what is popular.  Only when laws are just can justice be served.

Prosperity can only occur if sound money exists.  Sound money is money that retains its value over time.  The American government, through its excessive and unconstitutional spending, in collusion with the Federal Reserve System, through its control of the money supply, has devalued the American currency.  Therefore, sound money no longer exists and therefore the prosperity of future generations is extremely endangered.

Happiness occurs when individuals are free to choose how they want to use their labor and to be able to choose how they use the income from that labor to improve their own lives and the lives of others.  Current government rules and regulations and the taxes imposed on labor leave little room for happiness.

Security involves the sanctity of private property without which individuals would live in constant fear of their property being confiscated rendering a free society to become non-existent.  The current U.S. government tax and spending system provides little security for the individual in this regard.  As a result the free society upon which America was built is very much in jeopardy of being lost.

Freedom cannot exist without personal responsibility.  Government cannot provide anything to anyone without first taking from someone.  Responsibility means to govern one’s self.  One cannot be personally responsible without being free and for sure one cannot be free without having personal responsibility for that freedom.  As Johann von Goethe said so long ago, “None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who think they are free.”

Liberty means constitutionally limited government.  The founders of the United States provided for a constitutional republic, which can only succeed if government remains within the confines and jurisdiction given to it in the U.S. Constitution.  Patrick Henry stated it perfectly, “The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government - lest it comes to dominate our lives and interests.”

Peace comes with a self-determinist foreign policy.  All nations, all individuals have an equal right to decide for themselves what they want from life.  Unless congress makes a declaration of war, no American military personnel is to be sent to interfere in the political affairs of others.

John Quincy Adams stated, “…America goes not abroad, in search of monsters to destroy.  She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all.  She is the champion and vindicator only of her own.  She will commend the general cause by the countenance of her voice, and the benignant sympathy of her example.  She well knows that by once enlisting under other banners than her own, were they even the banners of foreign independence, she would involve herself beyond the power of extrication, in all the wars of interest and intrigue, of individual avarice, envy, and ambition, which assume the colors and usurp the standard of freedom.”

Emma Lazarus wrote on the base of Miss Liberty, “…Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore.  Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

In other words, the U.S. Government is not to go abroad and interfere with another country’s politics nor is it provide for anyone coming here or those who already reside in America.  America is the place where, anyone who arrives and resides there, they will be guaranteed the protection of their life, liberty, and their pursuit of what they decide to be their happiness.

If the American republic is to survive, these principles must be adhered to.
