Hollow Undemocratic Dems' Concern About Syria

by Stephen Lendman

Post-9/11, the US has been actively or indirectly at war in Afghanistan, parts of Pakistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Somalia and Ukraine.

Obama bragged about bombing seven countries in eight years. Both extremist right wings of America's war party overwhelmingly support endless wars against nations threatening no one.

US presidents since Harry Truman waged naked aggression against other countries - directly or through use of proxy forces in Central America in the 1980s, US responsibility for orchestrating the Iran-Iraq war from 1980 - 1988, CIA support for mujahideen fighters against Soviet Russia in Afghanistan, and other imperial mischief worldwide.

The Clinton co-presidency raped and partitioned Yugoslavia throughout most of the 1990s. Hillary urged husband Bill to terror-bomb Belgrade. She supports first-strike use of nuclear weapons.

Post-9/11 alone, US regimes orchestrated coups in Haiti,  Honduras, Paraguay, Brazil, Ukraine, Egypt, elsewhere in the Middle East, and Venezuela.

The so-called Arab spring was made in the USA. Uprisings were orchestrated, nothing  spontaneous. Spring never bloomed, just the illusion of change for the better. It was pure deception. Everything changed in targeted countries but stayed the same.

CIA dirty hands were involved in replacing unpopular regimes with despotic ones considered more reliable - along with countless successful and unsuccessful coups against dozens of countries since the late 1940s.

Republicans and Dems one-sidedly support Israel, partnering in its declared and undeclared wars on defenseless Palestinians - ignoring the fundamental rights of their long-suffering people, brutalized by a ruthless occupier.

NATO is a US-controlled killing machine, used for offense since the 1990s, instead of disbanding it after Soviet Russia dissolved.

In a letter to Trump, 32 undemocratic Dems urged withdrawal of US forces from Syria. Most of them supported the Hillary-orchestrated war of aggression launched by Obama, aiming to eliminate an Israeli rival government, wanting Iran isolated.

The vast majority of House and Senate members support US wars of aggression in multiple theaters, trillions of dollars spent for militarism and waging them.

The letter of 32 Dems contradicts the voting records of most of its signatories - OKing Pentagon funding for warmaking even though America's only enemies are invented ones. No real ones exist.

The letter was an exercise in hypocrisy. Expressing concern "about and oppos(ition) to US military operations and troop presence in Syria" ignored Obama's war for six years, to date likely responsible for a million or more casualties, a human tragedy, the highest of high crimes, the same lawless agenda in all US war theaters.

Trillions of dollars have been spent to rape and destroy one country after another. Millions of civilians were killed, wounded, or displaced.

America's military, industrial, security, media complex demands them. Congress overwhelmingly obliges with annual appropriations for endless mass slaughter and destruction - military Keynesianism on steroids.

It's what the late Gore Vidal called "perpetual war for perpetual peace," a nation without enemies on a permanent war footing.

Warmaking takes precedence over virtually everything else. Most Dems saying they "believe there was never a military solution in Syria" supported Obama's war, and all others he waged for eight years.

Expressing concern about the consequences of US policies in Syria amounts to coming woefully late to the table on what's going on, along with paying no heed to Washington's longstanding permanent war agenda - the key issue, not what's happening in one country alone.

Maintaining the myth of "our fight against ISIS" fails to admit US support for all regional terrorist groups and others elsewhere, using their fighters as proxy forces.

Remarking about "the tragic death of 4 brave service members" shows shocking indifference to the millions killed by endless US wars post-9/11 alone - millions more earlier post-WW II, mainly in North Korea and Southeast Asia.

In fairness, raising concern for thousands of civilians killed in Raqqa alone by Pentagon-led terror-bombing is a welcome recognition of the cost of war in one city.

Unmentioned was US responsibility for a similar holocaust in Mosul and elsewhere in Iraq under Trump alone.

Saying "(t)he US has both a moral and strategic obligation to help address the humanitarian crisis in Syria and avoid actions that exacerbate it" isn't good enough.

Washington is permanently at war on humanity at home and abroad, supported by the vast majority of House and Senate members.

Key is waging peace, not war, ending endless holocausts, by cutting off all congressional funding. Without it no wars can be waged.

The business of America is war, why the nation is so hated worldwide.

Anti-nuclear expert Helen Caldicott explained that "one single failure of nuclear deterrence could end human history (quickly). Once initiated, it would take one hour to trigger a swift, sudden end to life on this planet."

Only nuclear disarmament and abolition of these weapons can stop it, what's never discussed or considered. It's unmentioned in the letter by 32 Dems to Trump, paying no heed to the risk of ending life on earth if these WMDs are used.

Long ago drafted plans for war on Russia include use of nuclear weapons, China and Iran likely targeted the same way - a lunatic scheme risking destruction of planet earth and all its life forms.

Hillary supports using nukes preemptively. So do other bipartisan US hardliners, earlier and now - risking almost certain doom if things go this far.

What Dems should have stressed in their letter to Trump above all else, they ignored.
