The United States of Injustice Revisited

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

The US is an imperial state, a warrior state, a gangster state, a crime boss state, a Nazified fascist state, a hugely debauched state, a surveillance state, a racist state, a fear-mongering/hate-mongering state, an ecocidal state.

Run by self-serving dark forces, it's a nation threatening the rights and welfare of everyone everywhere. Wealth, power and privileged interests alone matter at the expense of ordinary people at home and abroad.

Count the ways. It's not a pretty picture. State terrorism is called national defense. Democracy in America is pure fantasy, a notion abhorred by its ruling class, tolerated nowhere.

Elections are farcical. Dirty business as usual always wins. Names and faces change. The dirty system remains in place, hardening with each new regime in power, not a dime's worth of difference between Republicans and Dems on issues mattering most.

Endless wars rage against invented enemies, threatening no one with no prospect for peace — while vital homeland needs go begging.

Monied interests never had things better. Most Americans are either impoverished or bordering it, the nation's leadership indifferent to their rights and welfare.

GW Bush got one thing right, likely the only thing, saying the Constitution is a "goddamned piece of paper," its principles long ago abandoned by both extremist right wings of the US war party.

The nation I grew up in long ago no longer exists. Never beautiful but the way things were during my youth were world's apart from today's dismal, hugely dangerous state, most young people with no advantages like earlier generations had.

The power of media-supported propaganda pounded into the public mind created a nation of over-entertained, uninformed morons, oblivious to the diabolical agenda of the nation's ruling class.

America's permanent war economy pours countless trillions of dollars down a black hole of waste, fraud and abuse. Mass slaughter, vast destruction and appalling human misery on a global scale defines its fallout.

Virtually every kind of war-related spending is prioritized, social justice on the chopping block for elimination to further it.

Poverty, homelessness and hunger in America are growth industries. The US is increasingly a nation poor, disadvantaged, uneducated, and disconnected from reality people.

Militarized fascism defines the American way, a partnership of hawkish/self-serving right-wing politicians and corporate predators — their wicked agenda wrapped in the American flag, things likely another major 9/11-type false flag away from full-blown tyranny.

A mass media/state alliance promotes power elite policies. An obsession with national security exists at a time when threats are invented because no real ones exist.

The public mind is manipulated to accept loss of fundamental freedoms for greater security, unaware how both are being lost.

The nation's obsession with crime and punishment created a draconian criminal injustice system.

Its gulag prison system is the world's largest by far, locking people in cages, mostly for minor offenses, thousands for political reasons, supplemented by CIA and Pentagon-run torture prisons worldwide.

Targeted nations, entities, and individuals are blamed for US crimes committed against them.

The road to hell is paved with the ill-intentions of the nation's ruling class. Anyone resisting its growing tyranny risks ending up like Julian Assange and Chelsea Manning.

Assange is locked in a UK prison cage. Trump regime hardliners want him extradited to the US for the "crime" of truth-telling journalism — how all fascist police states operate, Britain partnering with US high crimes against humanity.

Chelsea Manning is mistreated the same way, locked in a cage indefinitely for invoking her constitutional right to remain silent, refusing to testify against Assange in  secretive (unconstitutional) grand jury proceedings.

The abusive system forces individuals to answer hostile prosecutorial questions against their will — without counsel for advice and support. As the saying goes, what is said can be used against you.

Witnesses risk unwitting self-incrimination, even when guilty of no crimes, denied their Fifth Amendment right to remain silent in cases where prosecutors impose immunity – yet game the system to their advantage in seeking indictments.

That's why Manning refused to cooperate, why no one should go along with the police state practice.

Eastern District of Virginia court Judge Claude Hilton ordered her (politically) detained as long as she remains silent.

At the completion of the current grand jury's work, she can be subpoenaed to testify before a newly convened grand jury – a way to keep her imprisoned longterm.

She's being unlawfully fined $1,000 a day for remaining silent. On Monday, federal district court judge Anthony Trenga rejected a motion to reconsider her unjust mistreatment.

Already fined tens of thousands of dollars she can't pay, it can mount exponentially to keep her behind bars as long as ruling US regimes want her there — federal judges going along with injustice.

She morally, legally, and courageously objects to the secretive, oppressive grand jury process. She'd rather starve than cooperate, she said.

Injustice in the US is politicized. Guilt by accusation suffices for anyone its dark forces want imprisoned. Innocence is no defense, the rule of law long ago abandoned.

Wrongful convictions happen time and again, including for political reasons and capital crimes targeted individuals didn't commit.

Judicial proceedings give kangaroos a bad name. When evidence doesn't exist it's invented.

When exculpatory proof exonerates individuals the state wants railroaded, it's suppressed — due process and equal justice under law meaningless figures of speech.

America is the only nation sentencing children under age-18 to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

It's unconstitutional, banned under the 8th Amendment, prohibiting "cruel and unusual punishments," yet it happens time and again, largely to individuals of color or for political reasons.

Mandatory minimum sentences, three strikes and you're out, get tough on crime policies, and a guilty unless proved innocent mentality defines the US injustice system.

The war on drugs is war on the nation's poor and people of color, feeding the US prison/industrial complex — while dangerous opioids and other harmful legal drugs are sold freely.

Preemptive/aggressive wars on nations is the American way. So is state-sponsored oppression of nonbelievers.

Militarized America threatens freedom everywhere. Police state laws enforce harshness.

Half a century ago, Martin Luther King called America "the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today." Imagine what he'd say now.

State-sponsored terror is official US policy at home and abroad, eroding freedoms heading toward elimination altogether.

America was never beautiful, never the land of the free and home of the brave, never a shining city on a hill.

Nazism was transplanted to the US, not defeated. People everywhere are more threatened now than ever before — because of US rage to dominate other countries by brute force.

Instead of highlighting the threat to people everywhere, establishment media are silent — supporting what demands denunciation.
