Trump and Netanyahu Regimes Pushing for War on Iran?

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

Their longstanding aim is toppling Iran's legitimate government, wanting it replaced by pro-Western puppet rule.

For the US, it's also about gaining control over Iran's vast hydrocarbon resources. Israel wants its main regional rival eliminated.

By the IDF's own admission, its warplanes conducted hundreds of airstrikes on Syrian and other regional targets to counter an alleged Iranian threat.

It's invented by the US and Israel because no real Islamic Republic threat exists — none ever since its 1979 revolution.

The Trump and Netanyahu regimes support ISIS and other regional terrorist groups — used by the Pentagon and CIA as proxy imperial forces in the Middle East, North Africa, Central Asia and elsewhere.

Israel's involvement in US aggression on Syria aims to topple its legitimate government, wanting it replaced by a pro-Western puppet regime while isolating Iran.

Tehran's presence in Syria is advisory, aiding an ally, not involved in aerial or ground combat operations — posing no threat to Israel.

Hezbollah forces are directly involved in ground operations against US/NATO/Israeli-supported terrorists.

Its fighters in Syria pose no threat to the Jewish state. They're very much threatened by US and Israeli terror-bombing.

On Sunday, Pompeo and Netanyahu spoke by phone, the State Department saying:

"The Secretary expressed support for Israel's right to defend itself from threats posed by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (sic) and to take action to prevent imminent attacks against Israeli assets in the region (sic)," adding:

Pompeo and Netanyahu "discussed how Iran is leveraging its foothold in Syria to threaten Israel and its neighbors (sic)."

Netanyahu said "Israel would strike (Iranian) IRGC targets threatening Israel (sic), wherever they are located."

Fact: No threats to US security existed anywhere since WW II ended.

Fact: Israel faced no regional or other security threats since end of the October 1973 Yom Kippur war.

Both countries unjustifiably justify their actions by inventing threats that don't exist — the world community doing nothing to challenge their aggression.

On Monday, Haaretz published disinformation piece about an Iranian threat to Israel that doesn't exist, saying:

"The Iranian plan to launch a swarm of 'killer drones' toward Israeli targets from Syria…was foiled by the Israel Defense Forces on Saturday night," adding:

"In the last nineteen months, there have been at least four attempts by Iran, or militias working on its behalf, to launch either attack drones or missiles towards Israel."

Fact: No Iranian plan to attack Israel exists now or earlier.

Fact: The Islamic Republic never attacked another country throughout its 40-year history — how the US, NATO and Israel operate, permanently at war with invented enemies.

Fact: Iran's considerable military capabilities are solely for defense. If attacked, it's able to hit back hard against an aggressor.

Fact: Claiming an Iranian threat to Israel is a long ago debunked Big Lie.

On all things military, Haaretz supports IDF aggression, despite journalism the way it should be at times on various other issues — clearly not on anything about Iran, Syria, Hezbollah, and Hamas, backing the myth of their threat to Israeli security.

Over the weekend, former IRGC commander/secretary of Iran's Expediency Discernment Council, Mohsen Rezaei, debunked the Netanyahu regime's Big Lie about IDF warplanes targeting Iranian sites near Damascus, saying:

"This is a lie and is not true. America and Israel do not have the power to attack Iran's centers and positions, and the Zionist regime's claims about targeting Iranian positions are lies."

Over the weekend, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) said government forces downed most Israeli missiles aimed at targets near Damascus.

On Sunday, Israeli warplanes also struck targets along the Lebanese/Syrian border. Hezbollah leader Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah responded, saying two of its forces were killed, adding:

"Resistance forces will not tolerate the Israeli drones hovering (illegally) in Lebanese airspace anymore. We will defend" the country's airspace.

An IDF spy drone was filming Hezbollah positions, he said, another an attack UAV.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps Quds Force chief General Qassem Soleimani called IDF attacks over the weekend "the Israelis' last struggles."

On Sunday, Press TV said "Iran has frequently announced that it has no forces operating on the ground in Syria and has been only offering military advisory support to Syria at the request of the Damascus government to enable its army to speed up its gains on various fronts against terror outfits."

Iran, Syria, and Lebanon support regional peace and stability. US/NATO/Israeli aggression make it unattainable.

Are actions by the Trump and Netanyahu regimes heightening the risk of war on Iran — by provoking it leadership to counter their aggression?

The Middle East is already a tinderbox because of US and Israeli imperial aims.

Attacking Iran would be madness. What's unthinkable is possible because of their rage to dominate the region unchallenged.
