Advocacy Groups Want Trump Impeached for the Wrong Reasons
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)
Legitimate reasons to impeach Trump are ignored by undemocratic Dems, supportive media, and advocacy groups wanting him removed from office — for the wrong reasons, not the right ones.
The campaign against him is a scam. Legitimate reasons to hold him accountable for are ignored because most of his predecessors and vast majority of congressional members share guilt.
Phony charges against him are all about winning an election he was supposed to lose, triumphing over media darling Hillary — also for wanting normalized relations with Russia, what practically no one in Congress supports, no establishment media.
Anyone supporting the impeachment scam is complicit in what's going on.
I'm an outspoken Trump critic, wanting him held accountable for real crimes, not fake ones.
A coalition of Free Speech for People-led advocacy groups drafted articles of impeachment against Trump, citing bogus reasons, omitting legitimate ones.
Titled Impeachment for the People, the draft errs straightaway, referring to US governance as "our democracy," mindless that none existed in the country from inception.
The founders abhorred rule by the people, wanting the nation run by "the rich, well born and able," according to John Adams.
John Jay, the first US Supreme Court chief justice, called for governance by the country's owners.
Throughout US history, democracy in America has been and remains pure fantasy. It's for the privileged few exclusively at the expense of most others.
True enough, the Constitution permits impeaching and removing from office a president and/or other government officials for high crimes and misdemeanors.
Trump is guilty multiple times over. So are the vast majority of congressional members.
"We, the people, deserve an impeachment and removal process that covers the full range of…abuses of power" by Trump and other officials — real abuses, not fake ones.
Throw all the bums out for legitimate reasons, not politicized invented ones.
Governance in the US rejects peace, equity and justice for all, Trump the latest in a long line of warrior presidents, a front man for the imperial state, Wall Street and other corporate interests — following in the footsteps of most of his predecessors.
One-party rule runs things — the money party/property party/war party — preventing democracy at home, wanting it eliminated abroad in Venezuela, Bolivia, Cuba, and elsewhere.
Indeed, "(w)e deserve leaders who will fulfill their constitutional duty." Almost none exist in Washington, Tulsi Gabbard closest to the real thing — no other undemocratic Dem presidential aspirants, no Republicans.
The advocacy group's articles of impeachment include the following categories:
1. "Abuse of power to target political adversaries, critics, and the press"
Fact: Undemocratic Dems are guilty of the above. I criticize establishment media more strongly than Trump for good reason, without his bully pulpit — for their managed news misinformation and disinformation, for suppressing what's vital for everyone to know.
2. "Corruption of electoral processes"
Fact: Trump legitimately defeated Hillary, no evidence showing the process lacked legitimacy, no Russian meddling, the Big Lie that won't die.
Fact: US presidents and most congressional members do whatever it takes to gain a political advantage over opponents.
Fact: Major media operate the same way by featuring advocacy over journalism the way it's supposed to be.
Fact: Speech, media, and academic freedoms in America are eroding, censorship the new normal, the hallmark of totalitarian rule, what bipartisan hardliners in Washington support.
3. "Abuse of office to promote discrimination, hostility, and unlawful violence"
Fact: Naked aggression and economic terrorism abroad matter most, along with militarized police turning inner cities into battlegrounds against Blacks and Latinos — the above wrongdoing ignored in the articles of impeachment.
4. "Corruption and self-enrichment"
Fact: The great GOP tax cut heist enriched corporate America, high net-worth households, and most congressional members from both right wings of the one-party state — ordinary people getting little or nothing. Some got tax increases.
Fact: The emoluments argument against Trump doesn't wash, used by undemocratic Dems and supportive media, along with other illegitimate accusations, ignoring important real ones because they share guilt.
5. "Obstruction of the administration of justice and congressional inquiries"
Fact: Mueller, House and Senate Russiagate probes found no evidence proving the above accusation because none exists.
6. "Misuse of armed forces and abuse of emergency powers"
Fact: Most US presidents and congressional members share guilt on the above abuses — notably by waging endless wars of aggression against nonbelligerent nations threatening no one.
Fact: The impeachment articles ignore the above abuses, focusing on troops used for border control and delaying military aid to Ukraine that never should have been authorized — used for aggression and repression, not self-defense.
Fact: Security Council members alone may authorize warmaking, permitted only in self-defense if attacked — not presidents, prime ministers, legislators or the courts.
Instead of wanting Trump held accountable for legitimate high crimes and misdemeanors, the coalition's articles of impeachment invented their own.
The motive of the groups involved is political, ignoring issues vital to address.
They're militantly hostile to Trump for the wrong reasons, ignoring the most important right ones.
