Russian Bounties to Taliban Hoax: Another Big Lie That Won't Die?
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)
The Russophobic NYT first reported the fake news, repeated by the CIA-connected Washington Post, other establishment media following suit in echo-chamber fashion.
On issues related to sovereign nations on the US target list for regime change, state-approved propaganda by establishment media virtually always triumphs over truth-telling journalism.
Soviet Russia and the current Russian Federation have been vilified for over a century by the US and West, rare interregnums proving exceptions to the longstanding rule.
By imperial US standards and its press agent media, nations unwilling to sacrifice their sovereign rights to its interests are considered fair game for bashing with an onslaught of Big Lies and deception.
The propaganda report published by the Times that "Russia secretly offered (the Taliban) bounties to kill US troops" in Afghanistan (sic) was a whopper of a Big Lie even by its long ago discredited standards.
The Pentagon denied the claim. So did the NSA, saying it has no corroborating intelligence that suggests it. The CIA refused to confirm what it knows is untrue.
The Times even backed off from its own initial claim, shifting the narrative from Russia paying bounties to Taliban fighters to paying "Taliban-linked militants to kill American and coalition troops in Afghanistan (sic)," using a middleman "contractor (sic)."
Is version 3.0 of its fake news coming in a future report? See below.
Russia's Foreign Ministry slammed the Big Lie. Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov minced no words, calling Times fake news reports "100 percent bulls..t."
The mass deception bombshell report and follow-ups laid an egg, the latest self-styled newspaper of record in its own mind black eye.
It's more proof that all the news it claims is fit to print is propaganda, truth and full disclosure long ago abandoned on issues mattering most, especially geopolitical ones.
Anonymous sources alone were cited in its fake news reports on Russia and the Taliban, a practice long ago sharply criticized by its own public editor, saying:
"There is nothing more toxic to responsible journalism than an anonymous source."
Using them is longstanding Times practice, other establishment media operating by the same discredited standard.
The famous incubator of future journalists, nicknamed "the reporter's boot camp," the now shuttered City News Bureau of Chicago had a huge sign on its newsroom wall that read:
"If your mother says she loves you, check it out with two independent sources."
The Times and other establishment media operate by groveling to power standards, why they can never be trusted.
The Times' Russia/Taliban hoax 3.0 didn't take long to surface.
On Monday, the broadsheet falsely accused Russia of "aggression" in Afghanistan, a US specialty since October 2001 and multiple other theaters, part of its endless war on humanity.
Slamming Trump for "inaction" and not "condemn(ing) Moscow," the latest Times fake news on this issue falsely claimed "(f)or years, Russia provided material and financial assistance to the Taliban (to) support attacks (on) troops from the" US and its imperil partners.
No sources were cited, no evidence backing the latest Times fake news claim.
Nothing remotely suggests that Moscow offered money or other encouragement to the Taliban, anyone else in Afghanistan, or anywhere else to attack US forces.
When solid evidence from proven reliable sources are omitted, claims made are groundless.
In the case of the Russian bounties to the Taliban or militants linked to them accusation, the claim is a bald-faced Big Lie with nothing credible supporting it.
Not even the US intelligence community, the Pentagon, or White House backs the Times rubbish in a series of fake news reports.
Establishment media pillory US adversaries with an endless barrage of misinformation, disinformation, fake news, Big Lies, and mass deception.
Various renditions of an anti-US Russia-Taliban connection is one of the latest examples.
Endless establishment media propaganda surfaces daily — press releases for the US war on humanity.
Like crabgrass and horse manure, it's everywhere in new forms daily.
