As Director of
Research and Special Projects for the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), Dr.
Heidi Beirich helps run the premier operation in America tracking the domestic
radical right, the SPLC’s Intelligence Project. Beirich pens feature articles
for the SPLC’s quarterly magazine, Intelligence
Report, an award-winning publication on American extremism. Beirich also
conducts extensive research on extremist movements and acts a key spokesperson
for the SPLC, a well-known national civil rights organization based in
Beirich has been with the Southern
Poverty Law Center for nine years. She came to the Intelligence Project from
academia, where she specialized in the study of white nationalism and
neofascism in Europe and North America. Beirich received her Ph.D. in political
science in 1998 from Purdue University and holds M.A. degrees in economics and
political science. She is co-editor of Neo-Confederacy:
A Critical Introduction, which explores the neo-Confederate movement and
was published by the University of Texas Press in 2008.
