Apparently, the proposal is to take existing over the air channels, kick off all currently existing radio and TV stations, and use the band width to give everyone in the United States internet access.  Whole lot of "not gonna happen" for several reasons.  1) Financial.  The cost is projected to be $350 billion.  We just do not have that.  2) Vested interests.   Every single broadcast outlet would immediately oppose this from the smallest FM station to WABC-TV.  It will also be opposed by every ISP and cable company out there that is currently making money on the sale of internet access.  3) A big chunk of the public.  It will be opposed by millions of internet users.  the opposition would range from the flooding of Congressional e-mail boxes up to pirates deliberately crashing government sites.  No political system would ever be able to implement such a control in such a wacky way.  Especially in the USA today.  I think we should all thank God that our senators are such complete and utter morons when it comes to the Web.  Anyone with half an ounce of common sense and a small knowledge of the Web would easily see the flaws in implementing such a boondoggle.  But it would be really fun to watch the goofballs in DC try to implement this.
