FEC Complaint Filed Regarding KFYI’s J.D. Hayworth. A former staffer for Senator John McCain (R-AZ) is filing a complaint with the Federal Election Commission stating KFYI, Phoenix’s J.D. Hayworth’s use of the airwaves to explore the possibility of running against McCain for his U.S. Senate seat is a violation of election law. Grant Woods filed the complaint without the authority of McCain’s office though Woods tells the Arizona Republic he discussed the matter with McCain who approved it. After learning about Woods’ action Hayworth responded via Twitter, “Paging Mr Grant Woods … you left your brain in the lobby! Woods tries to gag a non-declared non-candidate citizen – ME! 1st Amendment? BAH!” Woods claims Clear Channel is giving Hayworth the equivalent of $540,000 worth of air time each week but says he doesn’t expect a quick response from the FEC.
