I never got into survivalism, and I've never regarded simple preparedness as part of a movement. Where we live, it's just part of common sense. We get snowed in regularly. A few years ago, Buffalo NY -- not far from us -- got seven feet of snow in five days. Back in '98, communities quite close to us were without power for two weeks. So every fall we lay in four months' supply of firewood. We always have a few weeks' worth of food in the pantry. And backup...lots of backup.
