Now scientists read your mind better than you can

Brain scans may be able to predict what you will do better than you can yourself, and might offer a powerful tool for advertisers or health officials seeking to motivate consumers,

Of course, one wonders were the line is drawn between reading someone's mind, and manipulating it.

Consider this. The placebo effect in modern medicine relieves as many or more symptoms by use of placebos - mere sugar or starch pills - as are relieved by real medicine. The placebo effect works because the patient accepts the doctor's suggestion that the "pill" will work, whatever kind of pill it might be, and "mind over matter"s his symptoms. Google placebo effect.

Add quantum mechanics to the above, and you have a method whereby a bunch of believing researchers - they believe that the brain scan readings tell certain things about the brain/mind of the subject/patient being scanned - have convinced the subject/patient that they can read his mind by scanning his brain, thereby inducing what they think they are reading in the scan, into the mind of the subject/patient, through placebo effect coupled with natural quantum mechanics that they may or may not know they have tapped into.

Sounds like science voodoo and witchcraft.
