The HIIDE is a portable biometric tool that can capture peoples’ iris, finger, and facial profiles in field environments, with 65,000 currently in use in Iraq and Afghanistan. In addition to integrating with worldwide databases housing biometric data, the device is also compatible with a number of peripherals to include passport readers and other input devices. The Handheld Interagency Identity Detection Equipment device is a product of L-1 Identity Solutions, who bill it as “the most powerful tool ever developed for biometric identification.” While the HIIDE currently serves a number of military and law enforcement applications, we imagine it as a useful device in medical environments as well, facilitating the quick care and treatment of patients in less developed areas.
