Former Gitmo Detainee Sues Over "Kafkaesque Nightmare"

• The Miami Herald via The Slatest

Abdul Raza al Janko, a Syrian man, has sued the U.S. government for damages suffered when he was detained. He was first detained in Afghanistan under the Taliban, accused of being a pro-American Israeli spy, but then he was captured by Americans in 2002 and shipped to Guantanamo, where he remained until late 2009. The most significant aspect of this case is that Janko is "armed with a June 22, 2009, victory in his habeas corpus petition," notes the Miami Herald. In 2009, the Supreme court refused to hear a case brought by former Gitmo detainees but they were freed in a diplomatic deal and not by court order.
