Valley radio's Bill Heywood, wife found dead in Scottsdale hotel

Bill Heywood, a popular Valley radio personality for decades, and his wife were found dead in a hotel Wednesday afternoon, Scottsdale police confirmed.

Around 1 p.m., hotel staff found a suicide note in one of the rooms at the Homewood Suites near Scottsdale and Mountain View roads and called police, Sgt. Mark Clark said.

Police found two guns near the bodies of Heywood and his wife, Susan.
Susan had checked her and her husband into the hotel Tuesday evening around 6 p.m. Police have found evidence in the couple's Phoenix home and hotel room that they planned their death.

In his distinguished career, which stretched back to the 1960s, Heywood was named by industry publication Billboard as the No. 1 radio personality for three different years.
