Nazi mine washes up in Sweden

Military bomb experts in Sweden successfully disarmed a Nazi-era mine Tuesday morning after it washed up near one of the country’s beaches.

According to Sweden’s The Local, the World War II weapon was discovered over the weekend near the town of Lorudden.

Bomb experts initially thought the mine would contain live explosives, but did not find any after a full examination. Authorities set up a 1,200-meter safety perimeter around the mine and called in a helicopter with a heat sensing camera to make extra sure there weren’t any civilians around.

Police believe a winter storm during the holiday season likely caused the mine to wash ashore.

The bomb was safely disarmed some time later.
