Smog reaches unsafe levels in Thailand

Haze is normal in Thailand at this time of year, but it's not usually this bad. Much of the country’s north is blanketed in a thick layer of smog and people are being warned to stay indoors.

Hospitals are busier than usual with patients complaining of respiratory and eye problems.

The government is now considering declaring the worst affected areas as disaster zones, which would enable it to free up funds to tackle the source of the pollution.
