Harry Reid opens door to Senate gun control debate

And as he rose through the ranks over the next three decades in Congress, Reid enjoyed a mostly positive relationship with the National Rifle Association while selling himself back home as a fierce defender of the Second Amendment.

But when Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) spoke with Reid about new gun control legislation immediately after Friday’s massacre at a Connecticut elementary school, the Nevada Democrat suggested he was open to a new push to clamp down on deadly weapons.

“I talked to Harry,” Feinstein told POLITICO on Monday. “He didn’t say, ‘I will support you.’ He did say, ‘Something has to be done.’”
