Riot police confronted more than 50,000 people marching through Sao Paulo yesterday, as frustration about poor public services, police violence and government corruption, spilled out onto the streets, while demonstrations have taken place in Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre and Belo Horizonte.
"There have been protests in a number of Brazilian cities, including Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Belo Horizonte," said the Foreign Office, on its website. "Some of these have turned violent. You should avoid all protests and demonstrations.”
It suggested travellers should “monitor local media, follow the guidance of the local authorities and expect some disruption to travel.
