Politicians, media outlets red-faced over wrong claims about gun in Navy Yard shootings

• The Daily Caller

Media, politicians and activists had to backpedal Tuesday after an FBI spokesperson said there is no evidence that Aaron Alexis, the gunman who murdered 12 people in the Navy Yard shooting Monday, used an AR-15 in the massacre.

“We do not have any information at this time that [Alexis] had an AR-15 in his possession,” said FBI assistant director Victoria Parlave at a press conference on Tuesday. Parlave said that it is now believed that Alexis, 34, possessed a shotgun when he entered the Navy Yard.

Parlave also said that Alexis had “legitimate access” to the military installation.

I became aware of this event after it began, but before reports of the 'first' shooter 'down'.   I had my pc in front of me, and TV at my side.

Over the next few hours I monitored the info from every source I could tap into, and I tell ya, I still have so many unanswered questions and conflicting reports that I still don't know what to believe until I get some clarification.

Initial reports were that a "older, bald white man, dressed in black, carrying a shotgun" was seen on the fourth floor, firing down upon employees below.

Next, reports came in of a "tall, white male, dressed in military uniform, wearing a beret and wielding a handgun" was reported.

Then, I watched an interview with a lady saying she heard 'several shots in succession' and then said "pop, pop pop pop" in rapid succession (sound like a shotgun to you?).

Then came reports of a "black male in green fatigues, carrying a rifle or 'long gun'".

After reports came of the 'first shooter down' and the 'search for the one or possible two other shooters' I read one report of them being chased and two reports of them being "pinned down in the Southeast portion of the building".

Then things got real hinky.  All of a sudden I feel the full backpedal and it went from three shooters with 'one down' to one cleared as 'not a threat' and then it went into 'lone gunman' scenario, and that was all she wrote.  No more info that explained anything, just a scramble for whatever could be reported about the SINGLE perpetrator, and, of course, the 'heroization' of the victims.

Only 'Media Magic' can change an older bald white man dressed in black carrying a shotgun into a young bald black man dressed in green carrying a rifle.

Got beret?
