Which countries seek to censor their citizens on Twitter and Facebook?

Government requests for Twitter users' account information have increased by 40 per cent around the world, the company has said in its latest transparency report.

The microblogging website's set of data for the last six months of 2014 indicates a growing trend for governments to request user information.

Twitter said four new countries - Belize, El Salvador, Kenya, and Russia - made requests, bringing the total to 58 countries making requests.

In addition, between July 1 and December 31, Twitter reported an 84 per cent increase in global government and government-sanctioned demands to remove content.
