First Lady visits a shelter for children in McAllen, Texas, the day after her husband signed executive order ending policy of family separation for illegals

Spokeswoman said it was her idea to visit before the president signed his executive order and he supported her trip

No photos or audio was allowed from Melania's meeting with kids

The Trump administration has limited media access to the detention facilities

First stop was at Upbring New Hope children's shelter, where 55 children are currently being held

Visit comes after political firestorm over explosion in number of children separated from parents because of 'zero tolerance' at border

Trump ended separations on Wednesday but law only allows families to stay together for 20 days and what happens after that remains unclear

First Lady wore $39 Zara military jacket for start of trip - which is printed with the message: 'I really don't care, do u?'

She wore the same jacket upon her return to Andrews Air Force base
